Why We Need Better Support for Women in Early Pregnancy
I often get calls from women in early pregnancy who are scared, anxious, and unsure of what’s happening with their bodies. Bleeding, pain, and the fear that they might be losing their baby are terrifying experiences, and yet, too often, the support they receive falls short.
Many are advised to go to A&E, only to face long hours of waiting. Seven hours. Eight hours. Sometimes even longer. Hours spent in uncertainty, stress, and fear. And when they are finally seen, the message is often: “There’s little we can do right now. We’ll make you an appointment in 5–10 days.”
This is heartbreaking. As someone who works closely with pregnant women, I can’t help but ask—is this right? Surely, we can do better. Surely, we can provide care and support that acknowledges the emotional and physical turmoil these women are going through, rather than prolonging their anxiety.
Pregnancy is a vulnerable time. Every call, every scan, every interaction matters. A compassionate, timely response can make a world of difference. Waiting days for reassurance is not just inconvenient—it can be traumatic.
At Daisyscan, we strive to do things differently. We aim to provide women with honest answers, emotional support, and timely care. Our goal is to help women feel seen, heard, and supported—not just medically, but emotionally too.
Pregnancy should be a time of hope, not fear. Women deserve care that is efficient, compassionate, and understanding. And I truly hope that as a healthcare community, we can move toward a system that delivers just that.
Because no one should have to face the uncertainty of early pregnancy alone.
