FAQ

What is a 4D scan?

3D scans allow you to see your baby's face and features in the full 3 dimensions. The 4th dimension (which is 'time') added in 4D scans allows you to actually see your baby moving in full 3D imagery inside the womb. This innovative technology provides an amazing opportunity for you and your family to experience the wonders of your baby before it arrives into the world.

Are 4D Baby Scans safe?

Yes. 3D and 4D scans use the same Ultrasound technology that the traditional 2D scanning equipment has used for the millions of babies scanned in the NHS over the last several decades. Daisyscan follows the British Medical Ultrasound Society's (BMUS) recommended scanning settings for all scans. This ensures we follow the A.L.A.R.A. principle, which ensures our Ultrasound scans use the As Low As Reasonably Achievable settings for our scans; meaning the ultrasound output is low but we still get amazing images of your baby.

What if you find something unexpected?

All of our sonographers are medically trained and fully qualified, so if anything unexpected shows up you are in the best of hands. The sonographer will explain the situation to you and will address any concerns you may have. They will then personally refer you to your local antenatal clinic or fetal medicine unit (FMU)

At what stage of my pregnancy is it best to have a 3D / 4D scan?

For best results of 3D and 4D scans we recommend to arrange a visit between 24 and 32 weeks. However, 4D scans can be carried out from 13 weeks and early 2D scans can be carried out from 8 weeks. We recommend that you book an appointment about 4 weeks in advance to ensure you get a scan at the optimal time.

When is the best time to have a baby scan if I am having twins?

Twins generally have less space around them so we advise having a 3D / 4D scan a little earlier, at around 24 - 27 weeks.

Is the baby scan always successful?

There are several factors that can make it difficult to capture the perfect picture; the position of the baby being the most common (sometimes they just won't smile for the camera). It can also be due to the position of the placenta, reduced amniotic fluid or an elevated BMI of the mother.
Whatever the reason, our sonographers will persevere and use all the tricks in the book to capture that special image for you. If we're still unable to capture a good image we will invite you back for another appointment free of charge.

Rescan Policy

In the event the baby is in such a position that we can't capture a good image during your appointment, we will offer you a rescan free of charge (usually within 1-2 weeks of your original appointment). This offer is limited to one extra appointment per client and is at the discretion of the sonographer. A rescan does not guarantee the baby will be in a better position for scanning. (Free rescans are non-transferable and have no monetary value).

Can I purchase extra products on the day?

Absolutely. Our clinic offers a wide selection of gifts to enhance your scanning experience. They range from gender reveal cannons, enhanced HD Live and image upgrades to the very popular Heartbeat Bears to record your baby's heartbeat (a great way for parents or even older siblings to bond with the baby).

How many guests can I bring?

You are welcome to bring up to 5 guests with you to the clinic (children included). You and your guests are required to wear a face mask while in the clinic, in line with UK government guidance.

Do I need a full bladder for my scan?

Please drink 0.5 litres of water approximately 1 hour before your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Please ensure you bring your antenatal records when you attend your scans so that we can contact your health care professionals if necessary.

How do I pay?

We accept all major debit or credit cards, PayPal, as well as cash. Debit cards incur no extra charge however, credit card payment incurs a 1.5% fee of the total amount payable.

What happens if I am late for my appointment?

To ensure that all clients appointments run to schedule, anyone arriving more than 10 minutes late for their appointment may not be able to be seen by the sonographer and may have to rebook another appointment. There may also be a charge as this will be classed as a missed appointment (at management's discretion).

I want to book / amend / cancel my appointment?

Appointments can be booked online or over the phone. To amend or cancel an appointment please call the clinic at least 48hrs before your appointment or there may be a charge (at management's discretion).

Do multiple pregnancy / twin scans cost more?

Yes. Due to the extra time required to scan and assess multiple babies, twins or more are an extra £25 per baby.

How old do I have to be to book a scan?

You must be at least 18 years old to book an appointment.
